Jose Mourinho has stated that he wants a wide player to complete his transfer activity for the summer window.
Mourinho has already signed Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic this summer and told the assembled media at a press conference ahead of United’s first Premier League game of the season that he wants one more player to complete the summer’s activity.
“I understand the reality of the numbers, and I also understand that my club, by doing 75% of what I initially asked, I think the club did very well, so I don’t think I am in a position of crying, I am in a position of moaning, I am in a position of protesting, I am not in a position to say I am not happy with.
“I am happy with the effort the club did, before the Premier League starts and if until the August 31 the remaining 25% don’t arrive I will not moan, I will just go with everything I have to try to win every match we play.”
The Portuguese manager confirmed that his final piece of business over the summer would be a wide player but did not specify whether he was looking for a full back or a more attacking winger:
“Obviously the 25% would be a player for another position playing from the sides, but we have players and if we cannot strengthen the team in these areas we have people we can trust and go for it.”
Manchester United have been linked to the Tottenham Hotspur full back, Danny Rose, in recent weeks and this speculation grew after comments from Rose in an explosive interview with the Sun Newspaper where he said that he would like to play for a club in the north of England.
Rose has today apologised for the timing and manner of his comments via a statement released by Base Soccer Agency. United have also been linked with Inter Milan wide attacker Ivan Perisic over the summer and still appear to be interested.
The Red Devils will have to be content with their squad for the season opener against West Ham on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford but they do still have 20 days left in transfer window to sign the player Mourinho is looking for.
