French international and Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, has told Inside United Magazine that his focus is on winning trophies and the team’s quest for success.
The 21-year-old French international is not distracted by any talk of a move away from Old Trafford.
He told the magazine that while as a squad, specific targets have not been set, the aim is to win as many titles as possible.
He does set personal targets for himself with regards to appearances and goals, but he keeps them to himself.
And while he welcomed the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford, he made clear what the priority is.
“We also have the Champions League to look forward to again and I think that is a competition that every team wants to win. It is a difficult competition and you have to work hard from the beginning to the end. We will see how it goes. Anything is possible.
“But the main aim is the Premier League title. That is what we want. When you play football you’re playing to win, not to be second or third. So we’re going to do everything we can to achieve this.”
Martial has impressed in pre-season and is hopeful to be an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s plans this term. Despite being a late substitute appearance in the 4-0 win over West Ham, he still managed to impress.
An assist and a goal in his ten-minute cameo was enough to catch his managers attention.
Following their comfortable victory over West Ham, United’s next Premier League game sees them visit Swansea in Saturday’s early afternoon kick-off. The following weekend they welcome Leicester to Old Trafford.
Even by that early stage, Martial and his team-mates will be hoping they will have already made their title credentials clear.
