Reports have emerged this evening that Tottenham and Real Madrid are in advanced talks over a potential transfer for Harry Kane.
Real Madrid’s interest in Kane has been a poorly kept secret – with manager Zinedine Zidane describing the 24-year old as the ‘complete player’ in recent weeks. The Englishman finished 2017 as Europe’s top scorer with a tally of 56 goals for club and country.
Though Kane appears to be committed to Tottenham for the time being – the report states that Spurs would be willing to let the player go for a fee in excess of £150m, with Real president Florentino Perez keen to make him his next ‘Galactico’.
The signing of Kane would mean one of Real’s famous front three – Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema – would have to make way. It is believed that Bale could potentially be used as a makeweight to seal a return to his former club, with Kane going the other way in a player plus cash deal.
And the man whose number ten shirt Kane is supposedly after – another former Tottenham man, Luka Modric – is also believed to want to leave the club following this summer’s World Cup with Croatia. The 32-year old has won multiple honours with Madrid and wants to finish his career elsewhere – with multiple offers awaiting in both the Premier League and Serie A.
While nothing is a certainty yet – these rumours will do nothing to ease the fears of Spurs fans in losing another star player to the Spanish giants. Unfortunately, if Kane’s form continues – it seems all but a matter of when until he is picturing posing with a Madrid shirt.
