Gary Neville has not held back in his analysis yet again – with the former Manchester United defender claiming that his old side only have one world-class player within their ranks.
Having absolutely torn into Arsenal at the weekend following their 3-0 Carabao Cup Final defeat to Manchester City, Neville made a blunt analysis of the talent within United’s ranks when speaking to Goal.
The Sky Sports pundit, when quizzed on the matter of world-class players at Old Trafford, said that David De Gea is the only one who deserves to come into that bracket.
“De Gea’s the only world-class player Manchester United have got. You could maybe say Sanchez but not at Manchester United yet, even if he has been at a level for the last five or six years that you would say is world class.”
The Spanish goalkeeper has been in excellent form as of late, starring in the Reds’ goalless draw with Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League – with many now forging the argument that he is the greatest goalkeeper in world football.
There was some praise reserved for two of United’s outfield players – with the former full-back outlining that Alexis Sanchez withholds world-class quality that he is yet to show in a red shirt, while he also heaped praise on the performances of Antonio Valencia.
Neville did, however, point to the fact that the issue of world-class standards is not at the top of his former club’s priorities, with the main problem facing the club at present being the prospect of accommodating all their forward players into their preferred positions.
United sit 2nd in the Premier League table at present – as well as actively competing in both the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup. While these competitions represent the greatest chance of silverware for the Reds, according to Neville – they will have to sort out their attack and do so without any world-class outfield talent, if they are to be successful in the coming weeks.
