While it seems crazy to suggest Sergio Aguero could depart the Etihad this summer, Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola is known for taking no prisoners and is not afraid to upset his squad or fans for the long term good of the team.
You only have to look at his spell at Barcelona where he shipped Zlatan Ibrahimovic out because he didn’t suit his style and this season Joe Hart was sent packing to Italy in a move that has yet to be proved correct by the Spaniard.
Speculation continues to mount as to whether Aguero will still be at the club next season and attention has turned to where he may end up. The usual suspects Real Madrid, Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich have all been mentioned yet a surprise revelation has come to light, the Argentinian once revealed he always had a dream of playing with Liverpool.
The 28-year-old told Munich TZ newspaper in 2006, while still playing at Independiente:
“If I had to choose a league then it would be the Premier League.
“I have been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember and it would be a dream to play there.”
Aguero who won the Premier League twice with Manchester City revealed he watched the 2005 classic Champions League final where Liverpool came from three goals down to beat a powerful Milan side.
“I watched the Champions League final and celebrated every goal as if it was for Independiente.”
While Liverpool fans would welcome Sergio Aguero with open arms after struggling to replace their former star strikers Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez, Manchester City are unlikely to do business with a title rival.
There is also the issue of Aguero’s injury problems with Daniel Sturridge already injury prone it could be a case of one problem striker replacing another.
Guardiola has admitted he does not want the player, who has been at the club since 2011, to depart however Aguero has been used as a substitute for the last three Premier League games with young Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus wasting no time settling in at City having only arrived last month.
An injury to Jesus gave Aguero his opportunity last night and he found the net against Bournemouth showing Guardiola just what he can do, giving his boss food for thought ahead of the summer.
Aguero’s comment may also give Jurgen Klopp some thinking to do.
