Manchester United are in Carabao Cup action away to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
A weekend fraught with disaster for United necessitated a good showing by the second string against the Welsh Premier League side on Tuesday night. With Romelu Lukaku given a rare break and placed on the bench, it was left to young Marcus Rashford to lead the line in the League Cup.
Victor Lindelof retained his place in the starting line-up following his calamity at the weekend against Huddersfield Town, but luckily for the Swede, attention has turned to the other end of the pitch centering on the the English duo of Rashford and Jesse Lingard.
The two combined for a superb goal that showcased the attacking intent that United have been sorely lacking in recent games.
The 27th minute saw Ander Herrera receive the ball in midfield. The Spaniard found Rashford dropping deep, and the 19-year-old instinctively backheeled the ball diagonally into the path of an onrushing Lingard, who finished with aplomb.
Rashford’s seven goals thus far this season have contributed greatly to manager Jose Mourinho allowing him so much play time, and building on this tonight will give the boss confidence that the striker can contribute to the extent that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku have done.
