Two-time Premier League winner and Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has said in a recent interview that the only thing that brings him satisfaction, is winning.

The 29-year-old Serbian international slotted seamlessly into the United midfield at the beginning of this season and has offered the base upon which United’s improvement this year has been built.

He told the United Magazine that Mourinho was one of the key reasons he joined the club and that he shares his manager’s infamous obsession with winning.

“He is a manager who has won many trophies and he always wants to win.

“When you are in a club like Manchester United and when you have Jose Mourinho as manager, you always want to do more and always want to win.

“I understand that from him and I am sure we will do our best to earn some silverware this season.”

When asked if he was satisfied with his role within Mourinho’s engine room, Matic was unequivocal as to what in football gives him satisfaction.

“The most satisfying thing is to win. It doesn’t matter how well, it’s just winning.

“It feels good, especially when you play well and win.”

Following a disappointing Christmas period, United’s aim in the new year will be to keep sight of Manchester City in the league, while in February they will turn their attention to Sevilla, who await in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It will be the first time Old Trafford will have seen knock-out Champions League football in four years, and given the distance to City, may represent United’s best hope this season for the silverware Matic so desires.

In terms of what would constitute success in his first season in Manchester, the serial winner is as focused as ever.

“To win the Champions League, of course.”
