£37m Manchester United Midfielder Reportedly Set For January Departure

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata could be surplus to requirements at Manchester United with Juventus lining up a move for the Spaniard in January.

The 26-year-old only joined United from rivals Chelsea in a deal worth £37 million but there is speculation that the Spanish player could struggle to establish himself in Louis Van Gaal’s side following the arrivals of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

Wayne Rooney could also be capable of playing in Mata’s favoured number ten role and the Spaniard has failed to impress in a wide role for Manchester United.

How Mata compares when central and on the wing.

The above image courtesy of Sky Sports illustrates the point that the 26-year-old is failing to establish himself in a wide role for Manchester United and with competition so intense in the central positions Mata could struggle to make Louis Van Gaal’s starting eleven.

Mata was recently left out of Spain’s squad and a lack of first team football would see the 26-year-old out of contention to represent his national team.

United could be willing to do business with Juventus as they will look to add a central midfield player to their squad and they may look to former Manchester United academy player Paul Pogba.

The young French midfielder has developed into one of the finest in the game and a player plus cash deal involving Mata could be a possibility.

Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal is also a player that Van Gaal is believed to be monitoring and the 27-year-old had been linked with a  move to Old Trafford all summer despite doubt about a knee injury which the midfielder suffered last season.

A high profile midfield signing is set to be targeted in January and this could spell the end of Juan Mata especially if the Spaniard is not featuring in United’s starting eleven.

LouisVan Gaal has never been one to hesitate in selling players he deems not good enough, Mata however is a classy midfielder when is at his best.
