In today’s transfer news, Manchester United have taken a step back in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho and have identified two alternatives.
Jack Grealish is also set to be offered a pay rise by Aston Villa in a bid to ward off interest from United while, in Liverpool transfer news, Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in a back-up left back.
Red Devils’ Sancho alternatives
Manchester United have identified two alternatives to consider should they fail in their attempt to sign Jadon Sancho this summer.
While reports in Germany have suggested that United have agreed terms with Sancho’s representatives, the Red Devils deny that a deal is all but done.
According to MEN, United are even prepared to walk away from the deal due to the asking price – £108 million – set by Borussia Dortmund.
The report also states that United are looking at Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo as potential options if the Sancho approach falls through.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen the right wing position this summer and United are not going to adhere to Dortmund’s deadline of August 10 to get the Sancho deal completed.
Liverpool in for Lewis
In Liverpool transfer news, Jurgen Klopp has identified Norwich City defender Jamal Lewis as a target this summer.
Klopp is eager to find an appropriate deputy for first-choice left back Andy Robertson and he believes Lewis is the ideal candidate.
The BBC reports that Liverpool are considering a £10 million offer for Lewis, who made 28 appearances for the Canaries last season.
The fact that Norwich have been looking at Reds youngster Yasser Larouci may benefit Liverpool in getting the Lewis deal done as a swap-with-cash transfer may present itself as an option.
Villa desperate to keep Grealish
Jack Grealish may not be going anywhere this summer as Aston Villa are set to offer their sought-after captain a pay rise to £100,000-a-week.
In a bid to stave off interest from the likes of Manchester United, Villa will offer Grealish a new five-year contract worth an additional £30,000 each week according to a report in The Sun.
Villa had previously slapped a price-tag of £80 million on Grealish but Villa’s billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have no interest in parting ways with the 24-year-old.
Grealish scored on Villa’s last day of the season to ensure that the club would stay in the Premier League next term.
Manchester City transfer news
In the hope of knocking Liverpool off their Premier League perch next season, Manchester City want to sign as many as five more players this summer.
With Ferran Torres already brought in from Valencia and Nathan Ake expected to sign from Bournemouth, City are looking at adding even more to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Sky Sports reports that City are in the market for another centre-half, with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly the top target, as well as a left back.
Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez remains a subject of interest for City, while an enquiry has also been made regarding Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.
