“He takes matters into his own hands when it’s needed.”
Harry Maguire has been compared to Brazil legend Lucio after England’s victory over Germany on Tuesday night.
Maguire was named man of the match for his performance against Germany and it was the centre-half who started many of England’s best moves from the back.
Former Germany international Jurgen Klinsmann saw shades of Lucio in Maguire’s showing at Wembley as he praised the Manchester United captain’s impact.
“When I coached Bayern Munich, I had the Brazilian centre back Lucio and Lucio was very similar to Harry Maguire,” Klinsmann told the BBC.
“He just took the ball and went into midfield and ran off and Harry is very similar.
“He’s a positive lad, he’s a leader and he takes matters into his own hands when it’s needed and I like that.”
Maguire proved to be a welcome addition to Gareth Southgate’s side after missing England’s first two Group D matches, against Croatia and Scotland.
The United defender returned against the Czech Republic and he kept his place against Germany, with England yet to concede at Euro 2020.
Reflecting on Tuesday night’s win, Maguire said: “It is a magnificent moment for myself, the team, the fans, everyone involved in the country.
“It has been a tough couple of years for everyone in this country so to put smiles back on faces… everyone is celebrating at home and in the stadium.
“We had to be brave on and off the ball, we had to take the ball under pressure. Not give them easy possession as they like to play possession game.

Harry Maguire impressed against Germany
“First 10 minutes it was a little bit nervous, we gave the ball away a bit too much but it is expected when you are playing here, I am sure everyone will enjoy the experience but learn from it as well.
“I think we have excellent defenders in this country. Sometimes with all the scrutiny that the Premier League gets every goal gets analysed and people pick up on the slightest things We have excellent defenders and a magnificent goalkeeper behind us.
“I think we have excellent players. It is a unit, it comes from Gareth in the way he sets us up and then of course the forward lads. It starts from the front and finishes with us, keeping clean sheets is nice but the main thing is winning football matches.”
