Wes Hoolahan Reportedly Close To Signing With New Club

Irish cult hero Wes Hoolahan has been a free agent since his decade-long stint at Norwich City came to an end in April.

Now 36-years-old, Hoolahan is unlikely to play most games for his new destination, but he remains a potent attacking option for many clubs in the Championship.

He has been linked with a move to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, but reports today claim that his exile is set to end elsewhere.

Per the Eastern Daily Press, the attacking midfielder is on trial with West Brom, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Despite being soundly trounced for much of that campaign, the arrival of Darren Moore buoyed the Baggies, and the rookie coach has been given the chance to get the Premier League veterans promoted.

Moore has seen fit to give Hoolahan a chance to impress, given his failure to sign Bradley Dack of Blackburn Rovers on deadline day.

Although he managed just one goal last season, Hoolahan scored seven the year prior, and has over 100 games of Premier League experience.

Long heralded as Ireland’s best attacking outlet during his spell at international level, the Dubliner would complement West Brom’s current squad at Championship level. The Baggies are currently tenth in the table, but just four points off joint leaders Leeds United and Middlesbrough.
