Pep Guardiola is a manager who is accustomed to success.
After wildly successful spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, his first season in England with Manchester City didn’t go to plan, with the Cityzens finishing third in the Premier League table.
Last season, Guardiola’s side steamrollered their way to the league title by a margin of 19 points to nearest contenders and derby rivals United.
Sitting pretty at the beginning of March after a win over Arsenal, City were 16 points clear at the top, and were closing in on their third Premier League title.
Their margin for error was enormous, but as seen in the new Amazon Prime documentary, ‘All or Nothing’, the Spaniard wasn’t going to allow any room for complacency prior to a double header against Chelsea and Stoke City.
“It’s six days to get to Stoke, it’s fucking over. It’s fucking over. There’s no chance for a contender. We are tired? Fuck you! We are tired? Fuck you!”
The behind-the-scenes footage is fascinating, and another scene centres on a challenge that the team have yet to conquer – the Champions League.
In the last 16 of last year’s competition, City held a 4-0 lead after their first leg win away to Basel. They lost the home game however, and Guardiola was keen to point out the difference in belief between his side and the likes of eventual winners Real Madrid.
More compelling insight is sure to come from the documentary series as it covers the title win but also crushing defeats to United and Liverpool.
