Watch: Douglas Costa Sent Off After Elbow, Spitting In Player’s Face

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first two competitive goals for Juventus have been overshadowed by ugly scenes in the game’s conclusion.

The Portuguese forward scored a second half brace in a 2-1 win over Sassuolo to maintain Juve’s perfect start to the season.

But the major talking point of the game will unfortunately be teammate Douglas Costa’s conduct.

The away side got a late goal to put the Serie A champions under pressure, with the Brazilian Costa elbowing Federico Di Francesco in the build-up. He then pushed his head towards the Italian, being very lucky to only receive a yellow card from referee Daniele Chiffi.

Then just a minute later, Costa spat in Di Francesco’s face, earning a red card for a despicable act that was only flagged after the fact by VAR.

A lengthy ban is likely in order for the winger, and rightly so.
