El Confidencial say they are certain that Jose Mourinho will be winging his way to the Manchester United hotseat.
Wednesday saw claims from a Sky Italia journalist claiming that an agreement between Jose Mourinho and his desired destination of Manchester United was close.
Quoting ‘informed Portuguese sources’, El Confidencial, a regarded Spanish broadsheet, are reporting that Mourinho has already agreed a deal to take over Manchester United with club representatives.
The piece itself is emphatically entitled; “Pep Guardiola’s nightmare will come true: having Mourinho as a neighbour”.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents ‘The Special One’, has been reluctant to respond in the affirmative to rumours linking his client to the English giants, but is said by the same source to have strong connections with the club.
The month of June is earmarked as a possible arrival date. It appears less and less likely that current boss Louis van Gaal will be sacked before season-end, so a Guardiola-type deal which would see Mourinho announced as the new gaffer with a view to taking over in the summer could be a possibility.
That being said, it’s difficult to envisage the fiery Dutchman passively accepting his fate as Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was forced to do when Guardiola was confirmed to replace him.
It’s therefore more likely that a potential announcement will be kept under wraps until van Gaal has one foot hovering over the trap-door.
