Manchester United Deny L’Equipe Report Of Meeting With Pep Guardiola

According to the BBC and the AP, Manchester United have refuted reports in France which claimed that the club held talks with Pep Guardiola.

Following his announcement that he would manage in England next season, it was widely assumed that current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola was on his way to Manchester City.

Despite earning a Premier League crown in 2014, current City boss Manuel Pellegrini never looked to be in it for the long-haul.

The highly regarded L’Equipe newspaper reported last night though that Guardiola met with officials from derby rivals Manchester United last week at the Hotel Bristol, in Paris.

The club have moved very quickly to deny that such a meeting ever took place.

Of course (and this is the hope that many Manchester United fans are clinging to), this could merely be an attempt to save face if the move falls through and Pep goes to the Etihad. It would also keep current Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal from quitting amid embarrassing public speculation over his future, as noted by Harris.

Ian Herbert of the Independent is aware that Guardiola’s camp have also denied the speculation.

Either way, it appears that Guardiola’s next destination will indeed be Manchester. Whether it’s the blue or red half is yet to be determined.
