Locally-based outlet Manchester Evening News say it is only a matter of days before departed club hero Pablo Zabaleta is replaced.
Although Manchester City have only signed two players so far this transfer window, the total outlay for both winger Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson comes to about €90m. Their next signing will likely cost them nothing, as M.E.N report that Dani Alves is on his way to the Etihad to reunite with former boss Pep Guardiola.
The report states that the Brazilian is on the “verge of completing his move to City – with a deal potentially being announced this week.”
Given his age of 34, Alves is expected to cost City nothing to prise him from Juventus, whom he joined from Barcelona just last year. Age is also a factor in his contract, which is said to be of a two-year duration.
Former first choice right-back Zabaleta has moved to West Ham, while defensive cover in Bacary Sagna is also absent, with the Frenchman’s contract expiring in May. M.E.N state that Tottenham’s in-form right-back Kyle Walker is a target to complement the top level experience of Alves.
That experience comprises multiple Champions League and La Liga titles with Barcelona, and a Serie A championship with Juventus.
Given his exploits last year with Juventus, particularly in the Champions League, Alves still has a lot to offer.
