Liverpool Linked Heavily With Stoke’s Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri

Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri is likely to head back to the Premier League via Anfield.

Both The Telegraph and The Independent report that Liverpool are very much interested in the winger, who was part of the squad that got relegated from the top tier of English football last season.

Shaqiri, who has previously lined out for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, reportedly has a release clause of just £12m, which is low-risk, potentially great value for an undoubtedly talented player who is still only 26-years-old.

His six-figure wage demand won’t be a deterrent for a club the size of Liverpool, and he is viewed as back-up to the Reds’ stacked line-up on the wing, with the likes of Sadio Mane already in place.

The long-mooted arrival of Nabil Fekir from Lyon will increase competition, and there’s no indication that Shaqiri is a fall-back if the Fekir move is in any danger.

Shaqiri is set to star for Switzerland at the World Cup, having scored 20 goals for his country to-date.
