Alan Kelly has won the Major League Soccer ‘Referee of the Year’ for the third time in four years.
The former League of Ireland referee made the move to the States in 2014 and has flourished in the MLS thanks to his domestic experience.
With the combined submissions of MLS clubs, players and media, the Corkonian claimed over 46% of the overall vote.
He garnered 43% from the media vote, 41% from clubs, and 55% from the players that he officiated over throughout the season.
Those players include the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Villa and Wayne Rooney.
Earlier today, Kelly spoke to Trevor Welch on The Score sports show on Cork’s 96FM, sharing his delight at winning his third nod for best referee.
