Manchester United are likely to have their first signing of the window completed before the World Cup.
In order to challenge their dominant City rivals and hold the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea at bay, Jose Mourinho needs a good summer in the recruitment department.
Liverpool got the ball rolling in the aftermath of their Champions League defeat, with Fabinho complementing the impending arrival of Naby Keita, and Unai Emery heads what’s sure to be a new-look Arsenal.
While Manchester United have been customarily linked with almost every player in the market, the name of Fred has been bandied about more than most.
Indeed, the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder recently confirmed that he was in advanced talks with the Red Devils, though his focus was on the upcoming World Cup with Brazil.
“Talks have been at an advanced stage since January, if I am not mistaken. There was news of a strong bid by United. But I am focused solely on the World Cup.”
It now appears however, that the 25-year-old will have a new club to return to before he heads for Moscow.
Fabrizio Romano of Di Marzio states that the Fred deal will be done soon, while a more speculative report from Manchester Evening News claiming that he will have a medical early this week, and may be announced as a Red Devil as soon as Tuesday.
soon Fred! ✔️
