Emiliano Sala Plane Wreckage Has Been Located

The plane at the centre of the search for footballer Emiliano Sala has been found.

The aircraft, containing Cardiff City signing Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, went missing over the English Channel on January 21. Having flown from Nantes, where Sala played for the Ligue 1 namesake club, the flight was the subject of an intensive three day search by Guernsey authorities.

They called off their search a number of days after, terming the chances of survival for both ‘extremely remote’.

Since then, following calls from the 28-year-old’s family, a privately-funded search got underway. Marine expert David Mearns headed the procedure, and confirmed on Sunday that wreckage found was the plane carrying Sala and Ibbotson.

That team had reduced their search area to just four square miles, with the plane found on a seabed around 24 miles north of Guernsey

A recovery operation will follow, and the Sala and Ibbotson families will hopefully be reunited with their respective loved ones.
