Arsene Wenger’s hint at some possible transfer activity in the January window prompted some incredulous responses from jaded Arsenal fans.
Speaking at a press conference today ahead of his side’s clash with Norwich at the weekend, the usually frugal Arsene Wenger admitted that he may have to dip into his pockets in order to secure ‘quality’ in January.
“We are in a position where we want to do something,” Arsene Wenger said regarding the transfer window.
“If I find the right quality I will do something.”
A stockpile of injuries has seen widespread casualties throughout the Gunners’ squad, with the likes of Francis Coquelin facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Regarding talk of the impending ‘Black Friday’ shopping frenzy, Wenger said that he was partial to the odd bargain.
“For us, a bargain is to buy players of top quality, because only top quality strengthens our squad,” the Frenchman continued.
“I bought Patrick Vieira for £2.5m and it was a top bargain because he was a top quality player. We spent £40m on Özil but I still consider it a bargain because the player is top quality. I love a bargain. Who does not love a bargain? I don’t know many people that don’t like a bargain.”
The Gunners faithful on the club’s official Twitter account will believe it when they see it.
