Are Arsenal inching closer to a big move to match that of Petr Cech’s?
It’s been reported by The Express that Arsenal have made a “stunning bid of £31m” for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, and that Real have already rejected it. Benzema is apparently cited as one of Real president Florentino Perez’s “favourite players”.
A move will prove very unlikely, given that he has only recently signed a contract extension in Spain until 2019.
Spain’s El Confidencial though, report that the French star hasn’t said no to the Arsenal interest, and is keeping his options open.
Instead, he wants to wait and see what happens with Rafa Benitez at Real Madrid. Benzema doesn’t want to be a bench-warmer shunned in favour of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, so wants to get an idea of what is happening at Madrid before committing himself either way.
Mesut Ozil’s transfer from Madrid to the Emirates in 2013 has indeed shown that Real are willing to do business with Arsene Wenger and to part with a star.
The rumour mill is in overdrive.
