Given the comments made by Antoine Griezmann today, the Frenchman has given his future a lot of thought.
The Atletico Madrid striker has to-date been heavily linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderón, with Manchester United at the top of the departures list. Last night saw Griezmann rate his chances of going to Old Trafford at six out of ten.
His latest remarks today ahead of the launch of his new book indicate that unless Atletico Madrid can guarantee a raft of new signings, the 26-year-old will represent a different team next season. His criteria for the lucky club to win his signature revolves solely around trophies, as he lamented the lack of silverware won to-date.
“I want to win titles. I’ve come to a conclusion that playing a good game and scoring goals is not enough anymore”, he said via L’Equipe.
That’s it. Winning titles is what I will look for this summer when deciding on my future. With Atletico we got to a final and a semi-final of the Champions League, we’re close, but we lack something.
At the club, I’ll wait and see what to do. It will depend on the transfers.
I do not know if they understand, but all the players, you the media, my family, know that I love football to win trophies. To live these strong emotions. This time I want to taste it.”
Griezmann is willing to move sooner rather than later, but in stark contrast to his lust for prestige, he earmarked the cash-rich and competition-poor leagues of China and the United States as possible destinations.
“Today if I have to move it will be no problem. It may be England because it is fashionable, Germany, China and the United States. I’m ready to go.”
