Lionel Messi and Argentina aren’t going away just yet after they managed to defeat Nigeria in their final World Cup group stage fixture by a score of 2-1.
It would have been a sad to see had Lionel Messi crashed out of his final World Cup without even tasting the knockout stages but alas, after a nervy affair – Argentina will make it to the last-16 after a 2-1 win over Nigeria.
Croatia saw off Iceland in the other Group D encounter to seal it.
Messi himself opened the scoring for his side in the first-half, latching on to perfect assist to fire home with a deft finish.

After Victor Moses converted from the spot to level things, Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo scored an absolute beauty in the game’s dying embers to win it.

And that was enough to do it. Argentina will face France in the last-16, a truly different level of competition than the one that they have just managed to scrape past today.
