Twitter was left in a state of disbelief as Juventus fell just short of pulling off a frankly ridiculous upset against Real Madrid in the Champions League this evening.
Two nights, two ridiculous comebacks from Italian sides against Spanish opposition.
That would have made for one helluva headline had Cristiano Ronaldo not stepped up to break Juve hearts at the very end of tonight’s game.
You really can’t write this stuff.
After coming into today’s match after falling 3-0 behind in the tie in the first-leg, Juventus were able to get off the mark early and push Real to their very limits in the Santiago Bernabeu this evening.
Mario Mandzukic tucked home a brace in the first-half before Blaise Matuidi levelled the playing field fifteen minutes into the second.
Gianluigi Buffon’s reaction to Juventus’ equaliser says it all.
Gianluigi Buffon's reaction to Juventus' third goal is EVERYTHING

Unfortunately for Juventus, a last minute penalty that was converted in confident fashion by Cristiano Ronaldo proved to be the difference between the sides and while it would have been nice to see yet another comeback come into fruition, tonight’s offering had more than enough drama to keep fans satisfied.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was holding the fabric of football space time together. And now that he's exited Europe all hell is breaking loose. #Juventus

If you'd have had £10 on both Roma and Juventus to qualify before kick off yesterday, you'd have been f*cking sectioned, you absolute lunatic.

I think I’d speak from every Real Madrid fan’s side if I say that we aren’t proud for today’s “victory”. Perhaps Juve deserved more than they got and was a better side today. But this things happen and today we were on the wining side of it. #reajuv #HalaMadrid

Sad end for Buffon in his final Champions League game. Nothing to be ashamed of getting a red card for standing up to that ref. Better to die on your feet than live on your knees. #Juventus #RealMadrid

Better to lose like Juventus than win like Real Madrid. #ChampionsLeague

Massive, massive props to Juventus. They came, they fought, and they almost conquered. A world class team and club. Never count Juventus out until the final whistle.
