Burnley’s Scott Arfield has become Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s first signing since he was confirmed to take over the Glasgow club at this season’s end.
The first piece of transfer news from Ibrox since their recent manager switch-up has seen Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield join Rangers on a four-year deal after his deal at Burnley ran out.
Over the course of five seasons Arfield established himself as part of the squad at Turf Moor but with this latest move, he will look to play a key role in new coach Steven Gerrard’s promise to reinvent the side as a formidable force against the ongoing run of dominance their great rivals Celtic have been able to impose on the domestic league.
Seven straight title wins have seen all others forced into something more akin to a supporting role in the Scottish title race year-by-year but with the acquisition of Gerrard straight out of his role as a player for LA Galaxy, many are hoping that a new era will be ushered in as the Liverpool legend takes the reins.
How big a role Arfield can play in that remains to be seen.
