Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes was far from happy with the decision to honour Luka Modric as UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.
Yesterday, Real Madrid and Croatia standout Luka Modric was honoured with a long-awaited individual award. Given the dominance of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in recent years, seeing a player like Modric win it was refreshing in the eyes of most.
After a fantastic campaign that saw him win the Champions League at club-level and reach the World Cup final with Croatia, Modric won out the vote by a sizeable margin.
Speaking to Record.pt, Cristiano’s agent Jorge Mendes outlined his disgust at the fact that Ronaldo was pipped to the post by his former team-mate Modric.
“Football is played on the field and that’s where Cristiano won.
“He scored fifteen goals, carried Real Madrid on his back and conquered the Champions League again.
“It’s ridiculous, shameful. The winner is not in doubt, as Ronaldo is the best in his position.” (via SportsJoe)
If Mendes was this mad, we’re sure that Ronaldo himself was absolutely furious.
