John Hartson has made it clear that Manchester United need a player of Gareth Bale’s quality in order to make their next campaign a successful one.
Jose Mourinho’s second campaign in charge of the Red Devils saw him lose out in the title race to the dominant Manchester City.
And while United’s season was not a disaster by any means, fans of the club are expecting them to bolster their ranks significantly over the summer in order to mount a serious challenge in the upcoming 2018/19 season.
Former Celtic striker John Hartson believes a player who could inject the side with that world-class quality can be found in Gareth Bale.
Speaking to the Express, Hartson had the following to say on his fellow Welshman.
“It was rumoured that David Moyes tried to sign him when he was at United but he never got him because Gareth was too much.
“If I was Mourinho or I was a Man Utd supporter, I would be thinking, ‘Where can I improve?’ And Gareth is going to improve your team.
“I don’t want to tell Mourinho who to buy, how much to spend or how to improve his team because he’s been so successful, but if he wants a player that’s in the peak of his career that can do ridiculous things and win you games individually, somebody to supply Lukaku, then you can’t look any further than Gareth Bale.
“But whether he thinks that’s the case, I don’t know. He certainly would be somebody that he could look at.”
There’s no doubt that a player of the Welshman’s talents would be a welcome addition to Jose Mourinho’s current setup at Old Trafford. With the departure of star man Cristiano Ronaldo from Madrid to Juventus, however, the ease of snatching Bale away from the Santiago Bernabeu might be a real question.
