James McClean Issues Defiant Statement Following Abuse

James McClean has taken to his official Instagram to respond to the ugly scenes at his Stoke side’s draw with Middlesborough.

The Irish international frequently finds himself under attack because of his decision to abstain from wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day in honour of the British military personnel to have been killed in the line of duty.

McClean refuses to do so because of the history of his hometown of Derry and in his Stoke side’s 0-0 draw against Middlesborough this weekend, he was booed on the pitch and reportedly targetted with projectiles

He issued a statement in response to the incident – and in particular, to one section of the crowd present.
