Ireland’s recent pair of wins in the Euro 2020 qualifiers has seen them rise five spots in the latest update to FIFA’s national team rankings.
Mick McCarthy’s men, of course, have some creases to iron out following back-to-back 1-0 victories over Gibraltar and Georgia but all in all, maximum points is nothing to complain about and as a result, the Irish find themselves top of Group D.

The more difficult fixtures against Switzerland and Denmark will prove to be the real tests for the Boys in Green but with a two-point gap established between them and the Swiss in second-place, the foundation has been laid for a strong push towards booking a spot in the Euros next year.
On the back of these wins, the most recent update to the FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings has seen Ireland jump to 29th place – an increase of five spots since the last time the tables were calculated.
