Extraordinary Lukaku Vs Drogba Stat Has Manchester United Fans Just A Tad Giddy

It’s been one hell of a start to Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United career but already, he has found himself within touching distance of a true Premier League legend.

Hype or no hype, hefty price-tag or none, Romelu Lukaku has been nothing short of a revelation since making his £75 million move from Everton to Old Trafford. In five Premier League starts he has found the net on five occasions and though we are still in the early days of this already-riveting campaign, Lukaku’s knack for being in the right place at the right time has earned him the love of the United fanbase.

Another man whose predatory senses saw him dominate during his own tenure on English soil was Chelsea’s legendary powerhouse Didier Drogba, who, over the course of two separate stints with the London club, found the net on 104 occasions.

Drogba’s strength, composure under pressure and domineering presence saw him play a vital role in four different title-winning sides at Stamford Bridge. Now, plying his trade across the pond at Phoenix Rising FC, the 39-year-old’s place among the very best forwards of the modern era is beyond any question.

Lukaku, despite being two-years younger than the Ivorian when he himself joined the Premier League, could well – at this rate – find himself on the opposite end of Didier’s record on English soil by the time we reach the end of the year, as he himself has rattled off an impressive 90 goals in the time since he scored his first EPL goal as a substitute for West Brom against Liverpool back in 2012.

The actual figure according to PremierLeague.com is actually a grand-total of 104 from Drogba to Lukaku’s 90 but nevertheless, those faithful to the Red Devils couldn’t hold in their excitement at the fact that their new man is in such close proximity to an undeniably significant milestone.

As you would expect, however, many were quick to point out the glaring difference between United’s Belgian star and Chelsea’s decorated former-talisman.

Still though, with his prime years still well and truly in front of him, only time will tell exactly how Lukaku fares in comparison to the very best we’ve seen lead the line in recent years.
