Damien Duff has brought in the first new face of his new era at Shelbourne.

Former Ireland international Damien Duff has made his first new signing of his reign as Shelbourne boss, signing former Shamrock Rovers forward Sean Boyd ahead of the new season.

Duff was unveiled as Shels boss earlier this month following the departure of Ian Morris, and he has wasted little time in bringing in new faces to the club.

Boyd joins the Reds following previous stints at Longford Town and most recently, with Finn Harps.

Just prior to the Covid-19 enforced shutdown on professional football in 2020, Boyd suffered a potentially career-ending injury while on a PFAI training camp in England.

But he has since returned to full fitness, helping Harps to Premier Division survival at the tail-end of the 2021 season.

“We are delighted to bring Sean to the club,” Duff said on Saturday. “He is another brilliant character in the building who will no doubt help build a young, hungry dressing room but also an exciting vibrant team.

“He has a lot of qualities on and off the pitch and we really look forward to working together.”

Boyd joins a relatively bare Shels side at present, but it is likely that they are going to add to their squad in the coming days and months.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Boyd added after signing for Shels.

“From looking from the outside in, it’s really exciting to see what’s happening at the Club so when there was a phone call made and Damien got in touch, I couldn’t say no.

“I know how the Manager and the Staff operate and the Club is going in the right direction.

“I’ve talked to Luke Byrne too and the environment is something I want to be a part of.”
