Gavin Kilkenny linked with loan moves away from Bournemouth

Gavin Kilkenny transfer news

A good move?

Ireland U21 international Gavin Kilkenny has been linked with a loan move away from Bournemouth, after the Cherries secured promotion to the Premier League earlier this month.

Kilkenny endured a frustrating end to the 2021/22 campaign at the Vitality Stadium, after a very impressive start to the season for the Dubliner.

But when he did get his chance with Bournemouth under Scott Parker, he impressed, starring in their final day of the season win against Millwall.

Despite that, it appears unlikely that he will get his chance to play regularly in the Premier League next season.

As a result, a loan move makes sense, and there are clubs beginning to circle around his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to reports in the UK, both Hull City and Middlesbrough have expressed an interest in bringing the former St Kevin’s Boys youngster into their clubs.

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crooks has signalled Boro’s interest in the talented midfielder, whereas Hull City have also been linked in other reports.

While a Bournemouth exit may be a setback of sorts, it is not the first, or last he will endure. Speaking to Pundit Arena earlier this month, Ireland U21 boss Jim Crawford provided an insight into his character, when he left him out of one of his original U21 squads.

“Gavin is an excellent player,” Crawford explained. “I would have left him out of previous squads before the last campaign and I rang him up, and told him, which he said there was no problem.

“That goes to show the strength of character that [he has]. He’s gone on and is playing in Bournemouth’s first-team and came back in..

“He’s a great personality around the camp and the performances he has put in for the 21s have been excellent. Against Sweden, he had to defend diligently and he done that to the letter of the law..

“Next season in the Premier League, it will be a bit more of a challenge for him, but I got a snap-shot of his character when I left him out of the 21s [before].. He is a fantastic player to have.”
