Frank Lampard explains his passionate Seamus Coleman comments after Everton stay up

Seamus Coleman has made his mark on Frank Lampard.

After Everton’s successful Premier League survival chase came to a close, Seamus Coleman‘s mark on Frank Lampard was obvious.

In the wake of their crucial 3-2 win at home to Crystal Palace, Lampard singled Coleman out as one of the best people he has ever come across in his footballing career.

While there may have been plenty of emotion on show at the time, his comments were no act, as explained by Lampard in the aftermath of an exhausting night for the Toffees at Goodison Park.

“I have never seen humility like it, in my time in football..”

“On day one, Seamus came to me, sat in my office and was honest about the Club,” Lampard told evertontv. “Things that will remain private. But he was honest about the situation and the size of the situation.

“I could see straight away the burden Seamus was carrying, in a good way, because he cares so much, and he just wanted to change it. From then on, after those words, his actions have been something else: speaking, training, standards every day, performances in games.

“I have never seen humility like it, in my time in football. I heard a lot of good things about Seamus before I came to the Club.

“He has gone there and beyond. I was being honest [when declaring Coleman one of the best people I’ve met], I have never met anyone who has his morals and standards and he is an incredible player.

“You talk about legends of football clubs and he is certainly one of those.”

While Everton may have ensured their top-flight safety for another season, they will be acutely aware that they must kick on and avoid the same fate next season.

As it stands, next year will be Coleman’s last at Goodison, unless he agrees a new deal at the club before that. His current deal expires at the end of June 2023.

By then, Everton will be hoping to have moved into their new ground, and will also be hoping to look forward to brighter times ahead under Lampard as they look to draw a line under this season.
