Who would’ve thought Chelsea would be within touching distance of relegation when the season started all the way back in August and that Leicester City would be dreaming of Europe, and maybe more.
It’s been a crazy opening half of the season, with top sides succumbing to clubs they should be beating and teams like Crystal Palace and West Ham punching well above their weight.
We’ve had five months of uncertainty, with every distant title challenger feeling their still within a firm shout of mounting a challenge.
So congested is the top half of the league, due to unexpected results every week, that tenth-placed Stoke City are only ten points off league leaders Arsenal and Leicester.
Within the top four things are even tighter. Fourth-placed Tottenham – who are on 35 points – sit just one point behind Manchester City while Leicester and Arsenal, both on 39 at the top, know any slip ups could leave Spurs, City and a whole host of others in.
While Newcastle, Sunderland and Aston Villa make up the relegation-threathened trio at present, this unpredictable season could just be a good thing for these sides, knowing no team above them is going to have an easy ride anywhere they go.
It’s been a pretty spectacular 2015, let’s just hope there’s more unexpected results to come in the New Year.
