Undoubtedly one of the best centre-backs of his generation, Rio began his career at West Ham before two big money moves to Leeds and United respectively.
His move to The Red Devils was the highest sum of money ever paid for a centre back in Premier League history and it was there where he established himself as a true great.
During his time at Old Trafford, Rio won 6 Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, 3 League Cups and a Club World Cup to boot.
The partnership that he formed with Serbian Nemanja Vidic was arguably the greatest centre pairing English football has ever seen and the records that the two set together stand to this day.
What a player.
