Leicester City have confirmed the signing of 22-year-old striker Patson Daka from RB Salzburg, subject to Premier League and international clearance.

Brendan Rodgers has made Patson Daka his first Leicester City signing of the summer and the Zambian forward is expected to play a key part at the King Power Stadium during the upcoming campaign.

Daka scored 27 goals in just 28 league appearances for the Austrian Bundesliga side during 2020/21, helping the club to a third consecutive league and cup double. Over his four years at Salzburg, Daka won the league each season and finished as the league’s top scorer in his final campaign. He scored 68 times in total for Salzburg in 125 appearances.

Speaking to the Leicester City website, he said: “I’m so, so excited to join this great, historic club. It has been my dream and I’m so happy and looking forward to what’s coming next.

“I have followed Leicester from the time they won the league. I feel it is the perfect place for me, because it’s a team that fights for titles. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I feel ready to face this new challenge.”

Patson Daka to link up with Vardy and Iheanacho.

Daka has represented Zambia on 25 occasions, scoring seven goals and he also won the Confederation of African Football’s Young Player of the Year award in 2017.

He is expected to boost the striking ranks at Leicester City by linking up with veteran Jamie Vardy and fellow African Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored 19 goals in 2020/21. Leicester finished fifth in the Premier League for the second consecutive season and also won the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

They will play in the Europa League again in 2021/22, having reached the last 32 in the competition in 2020/21. After narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification for the second year running, Rodgers will hope that Daka plays an important role taking the club forward.
