Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has named his Premier League team of the season as the campaign begins to wind down.

The former Manchester United defender was tasked to pick his standout eleven – and in a season in which they dominated the league from start to finish, Manchester City feature heavily.

In all, five players from Pep Guardiola’s champions make the cut – namely Kyle Walker and Vincent Kompany in defence, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in the midfield and Raheem Sterling on the wing.

Kompany is an interesting inclusion, not least because he was selected over teammate Nicolas Otamendi (who was named in the PFA Team of the Year). The Belgian has started in just 16 Premier League games for Man City this season in what has been yet another injury-hit campaign – less than half off of City’s total number of games.

Neville opts for David De Gea in the goalkeeper position, which is of little surprise as the Spaniard has been in world-class form for almost the entire season yet again.

Completing the back four are Tottenham defender Jan Verthongen partnering Belgian compatriot Kompany in the centre, with Liverpool’s Andy Robertson on the left.

Liverpool and Spurs continue to dominate along with Man City in the midfield and forward positions – the Reds’ free-scoring PFA Player of the Year Mo Salah takes his rightful place on the right wing, while Harry Kane is picked up front alongside Roberto Firmino, now Liverpool’s highest-paid player after signing a new five-year deal at the weekend.

Nevill’e Team of the Year is slightly different to the PFA selection, with Kompany in for Otamendi, Robertson chosen ahead of Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, Sterling in for Christian Eriksen and Firmino in for Sergio Aguero.
