England v Germany live stream: What is at stake?

A place in the last eight of Euro 2020 for starters, but, beyond that, there is a clear path to the final for both sides. The tournament has been blown wide open. In the last few days, France, the world champions, Croatia, the beaten World Cup finalists, and Portugal, the European champions, have been eliminated from Euro 2020.

The winners of England v Germany will play the winners of Sweden v Ukraine. And either Denmark or the Czech Republic await in the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw, Belgium play Italy and Switzerland face Spain.

There is no clear favourite for the tournament and England or Germany have a very realistic chance of reaching at least the final.

What is the form like of England and Germany going into this match?

Harry Kane, England’s talisman and captain, is out of form, but England manager Gareth Southgate has some other incredibly talented attacking players at his disposal – Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

England’s midfield is solid and functional but lacks flair. While Harry Maguire’s return strengthens a defence that has yet to concede at the tournament.

But England have arguably been one of the least entertaining teams to watch at Euro 2020 so far. They won a dour game against Croatia, were outplayed by Scotland in a goalless draw and played with intensity and purpose for around 25 minutes against the Czech Republic.

England are yet to catch fire, which may be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective and allegiances.

Germany, meanwhile, are an unpredictable side that have veered from shambolic to brilliant in the tournament.

Joachim Low’s team lost to France in their opening game, hammered Portugal 4-2 in Munich before scraping a draw against Hungry when they were minutes from exiting the tournament.

They have the personal to hurt England, but could also lose by a few goals. This feels like a genuinely 50-50 game, and almost impossible to predict a winner with any great confidence ahead of kick-off.
