Busy Saturday In Store As GAA Announce Whopper 20 Game Fixture List

Wow. The diehards have a tough choice in front of them this weekend.

Last weekend’s horrendous weather conditions led to the postponement of multiple Allianz Hurling League games which were all replayed on Sunday.

The knock-on effect of this is that only one of the four quarterfinals ties were played as Limerick swept aside Laois on Saturday evening.

The GAA announced today that the remaining last-eight games will take place on Saturday meaning that overall 20 inter-county games will be played up and down the country due to the club finals taking precedence on St. Patrick’s Day (Sunday).

First up, Galway welcome the challenge of a high-flying Wexford side at 1.30pm Saturday. The game will act as a curtain raiser for the footballers who take on rivals Roscommon at 3.30pm.

Walsh Park will be the venue for Waterford v Clare which throws in at 2pm, while Tipperary host Dublin in Thurles at 4.30pm.

There is one remaining hurling fixture and it’s probably the most important one of all as Kilkenny play host to old rivals, Cork, in this year’s relegation playoff. A vital game that will see one of hurling’s ‘Big Three’ drop down to Group B ahead of next year’s league restructures.

The four hurling ties will be played alongside a full list of Allianz Football League fixtures following last weekend’s mid-season hiatus.

What a day for the parish!
