Allianz Football League: Key Games Across All Four Divisions Today

allianz leagues

With games going on all over the country on this the penultimate round of the 2019 Allianz Football League, there is plenty to sort out at both ends of the respective divisions.

Mayo travel to take on a Kerry side who can book their place in Division 1 final with a win, while Mayo’s hopes of making the final rest on whether they can produce a performance and come away with two points.

At the bottom of Division 2, there is a three-way tie between Cork, Tipperary and Clare, while Armagh could easily find themselves in amongst them if their game with Fermanagh doesn’t go to plan.

In what is a jam-packed weekend filled with 16-games, here are our four games to watch across each of the Allianz Football League divisions.

Division 1

Dublin v Tyrone

Mickey Harte’s side enters the lion’s den this evening when they take on Dublin in Croke Park. Tyrone started the league poorly but have since got their campaign back on track with wins against Cavan and Monaghan.

Despite losing two games themselves Dublin currently sit second in the table and could push further ahead of the chasing pack towards a league final given that Kerry are taking on Mayo in Tralee.

Division 2

Kildare v Tipperary

The Munster men are fighting for survival against fellow Munster sides, Cork and Clare. A win today over Cian O’Neill’s side would fill them full of confidence heading into the final round of games.

Meanwhile, Kildare’s chances of promotion look all but over, however, O’Neill will be looking to finish the league campaign strongly as the Lilywhites build towards their Leinster championship campaign.

Expect a tight game in Newbridge this afternoon.

Division 3

Carlow v Down

Steven Poacher coaches against his native Down for the first time today as Carlow welcome the Mournemen to Dr Cullen Park.

Down sit top of the table and a win will all but confirm their promotion back to Division 2. Meanwhile, Carlow need to pick up two points in the next two games to ensure their Division 3 status.

Paddy Tally’s side have been gathering momentum, but there is something to be said of the ‘Poacher factor’ in this game and how that may well affect the outcome.

Division 4

Wexford v Limerick

Wexford have endured a terrible campaign thus far losing to both Waterford and London. A win today over Limerick will give them a much-needed lift as we head towards the summer months.

Limerick started the campaign well but have since lost a number of games and now sit level on points with the Yellowbellies.

With both teams history telling us that they shouldn’t be operating in the league’s basement division, today’s game is huge in terms of confidence going forward.
