After an incredible 12-round contest in Brisbane on Sunday evening, Manny Pacquiao lost his WBO world welterweight title to former schoolteacher Jeff Horn.
Heading into the bout, Pacquiao was the overwhelming favourite with many pundits suggesting that Horn would not make it into the later rounds.
However, once the bout got underway, it was clear to see that the Filipino champion had a fight on his hands with his Australian opponent comfortably dominating the first round.
Having said that, as the bout went on, Pacquiao seemed to gain more and more control of the contest with Horn eventually getting heavily battered in the ninth round.
In fact, so bad was the beating that the Australian took during those three minutes that he seemed to fall back to his corner at the end of the round and was swiftly approached by the referee.
‘Jeff listen, I’m here to protect you ok? I think you’ve had enough.
Do you want to continue? Show me something in this round or I’m going to stop the fight.’
Horn incredibly rebounded in the tenth round with all three judges scoring the round in favour of the Australian and, although Pacquiao comfortably outpunched his opponent over the course of the fight, Horn was incredibly declared the winner via unanimous decision.
