With just five days remaining until Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg lock horns in the UFC 219 main event, we thought we’d take a look back at the only knock out loss in Holm’s distinguished combat sports career.
Although Holly Holm is now most known for her time as a UFC fighter (most notably inflicting Ronda Rousey’s first loss upon her at UFC 193), the 36-year-old initially made her name as a pro-boxer.
As a pugilist, Holm was hugely rated and with over 30 professional bouts to her name in 2012, she headed to New Mexico to take on Anne Sophie Mathis for the vacant IBA Female & WBAN Welterweight titles.
Although Holm headed into the bout as the heavy favourite, the ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ was brutally stopped in the seventh round as her French opponent battered her against the ropes before eventually sending her to the canvas.
Although Holm had one other loss (via TKO) in her pro-boxing career, it was the first time she had ever been knocked out. However, she rebounded just months later beating Matis in a rematch via unanimous decision.
