Watch: Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan Demolishes Antoine Douglas For Biggest Win Of His Career

Cork native Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan was in action in Montreal, Canada on Saturday night, taking on hot American prospect Antoine Douglas.

O’Sullivan came away with a stunning victory, stopping his opponent in the seventh round via a flurry of demolishing punches. While the referee gave the 25-year-old every chance to recover having been floored, it was clear there was nobody home once he had managed to regain his footing.

‘Spike’ had been a heavy underdog coming into the bout and that tag looked to be justified judging by the early rounds with Douglas taking the opening three stanzas. However, O’Sullivan remained composed and grabbed his opportunities to pounce as the fight proceeded.

A renowned heavy-hitter, the 33-year-old’s lethal combination in the seventh was too much for Douglas, who had been beaten only once previously in his career. Check out the finish in the clip below:

‘Spike’, fighting out of Dublin’s Celtic Warrior gym, certainly now has the upper residents of the middleweight boxing world sitting up and taking note. The only two losses on his record are to Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr. who are both respective world title holders at the weight-class. Saunders headlined the card ‘Spike’ fought on in Canada last night with an impressive defence of his WBO championship belt against hometown fighter David Lemieux.

Having rebuilt his career following the Eubank loss in 2015, going 5-0 since a burst ear drum forced his retirement in the corner in that bout, O’Sulllivan now finds himself on the brink of a world title shot again.

Immediately after the bout the Irishman stated his case for a crack at the winner of last night’s main event, which proved to be Saunders. O’Sullivan and BJS know each other well having trained together in the past.

O’Sullivan clinched the WBO Intercontinental championship with his victory over the highly rated Douglas.
