Anthony Joshua is beginning to look less like a “heavyweight hope” than a “heavyweight guarantee” in the eyes of many observers.
There is a band wagon a-rollin’ on the British boxing scene.
Last night, in a fight that was expected to be his sternest test so far, Joshua annihilated the previously unbeaten Scottish giant, Gary Cornish, to claim the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title.
Cornish, who entered the ring with a 21-0 ledger, was reduced to rubble in a mere 97 seconds. It was a brutal showcase of raw power, speed and athleticism, but also of constantly improving technical ability.
In short, it appears as though A.J has the whole package.
You can see the slaughter in its entirety below….
Britain’s emerging superstar will face his next challenge in December, when he takes on another undefeated fighter in Dillian Whyte.
Whyte, who stopped Brian Minto in 3 rounds on the the undercard of Joshua’s title win, holds a victory over A.J in the amateurs, and has been doing his best to drum up interest in the domestic battle by regularly trash-talking the classy Olympic gold medalist.
He didn’t look too confident at ringside after witnessing this destructive display first-hand, however.
