Twitter: Nick Blackwell Confirms That His Boxing Career Is Over

On Monday, whilst responding to the questions of fans on Twitter, former British middleweight champion Nick Blackwell revealed that he has made the decision to call time on his professional boxing career.

Blackwell was placed in an induced coma not long after he was stopped in the 10th round of a title fight with Chris Eubank Jr. at the Wembley Arena in London on March 26th. According to his promoter, Mick Hennessy(via The Guardian), the decision to place him in this state was taken after a bleed was discovered “outside the brain – on the skull”.

Thankfully, the 25-year-old awoke one week later and has been making rapid improvement ever since.

Despite this remarkable recovery however, Blackwell recognizes the fact that he has been lucky and does not wish to risk putting himself or his family through such pain again.

The fighter’s plight inspired the boxing community to rally, with a number of online funds being set up with the aim of covering his medical costs.

The support that he and his family received during this time did not go unrecognised by the Trowbridge native, who sincerely thanked his entire “Boxing Family” for everything they had done.
