Conor McGregor will step into the ring with Floyd Mayweather for their highly anticipated boxing match in eight weeks time and will look to defy the odds and hand the American his first ever professional defeat.
Ever since the clash was first mooted over a year ago, fans, pundits and professionals alike have written of the Irishman’s chances of shocking Mayweather.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest ever in his sport, Mayweather is known for his defensive prowess and it is this ability that many believe gives McGregor no chance against the 40-year-old.
Now, joining the chorus of big names to publicly back the five-weight champion is none other than his greatest rival, Manny Pacquiao.
Reported by BoxingScene, the current WBO welterweight champion has emphatically endorsed Mayweather and offered little hope for the UFC’s brightest star.
“I can say Floyd Mayweather will win because the fight is in boxing, not an MMA fight. So that’s an advantage with Floyd
“I don’t think McGregor is compatible with boxing, pure boxing. I’m hoping that it’s not going to be a boring fight. We’ll see.”
Pacquiao famously lost to Mayweather back in 2015 in what was most the lucrative fight in boxing history so the Philippines native is all too aware of the American’s defensive skillset.
Where McGregor finds the majority of his support ahead of the mammoth clash in August is from within the MMA fraternity.
It is there that McGregor’s punching power is best known and where there is a belief that the 28-year-old’s unique fighting style and striking precision could be just the key to unlocking the, up until now, impenetrable Mayweather defence.
