Katie Taylor eased to a third-round stoppage victory over Jasmine Clarkson in Brooklyn last night as she continued her awe-inspiring start to professional boxing.
The Bray native put on a clinic in the Barclays Center and was widely praised for the performance as she claimed her sixth win in as many bouts.
Such was the comprehensive nature of the win, her promoter has even claimed Taylor is now knocking on the door of a world title fight.
Eddie Heard told Sky Sports:
“It is difficult getting her matched, but I think we are one fight away from challenging for a world title.
“The next step is quite a big step, going from fringe world level to facing a real world champion, but she is good enough to do it.”
Hearn even gave a time frame for the 31-year-old’s next moves.
“We are looking at September again for Taylor, maybe on the NXTGEN show at York Hall or maybe an international card again out here.
“Then in November I want to see her challenge for a world title, hopefully on the Joshua-Klitschko rematch card.”
The prospect of the Olympic gold medallist contending for a title belt on one of the biggest cards of the year is truly mouthwatering. Considering the ease of Taylor’s victories of late, it would be no less than she deserves.
