Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr are set to head to Saudi Arabia for their highly anticipated rematch on December 7, according to The Telegraph.
After stepping in on short-notice, Ruiz Jr sensationally stopped the British heavyweight to claim the IBF, WBO and WBA titles back in June. A rematch was rumoured almost immediately with Gareth A. Davies claiming an official announcement is to be made today confirming that the pair will face-off in Riyadh later this year.
It is understood that close to $100 million was put up by Saudi Arabian sports entities in order to host the bout with DAZN in the USA and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK, set to air the fight.
The Mexican heavyweight stepped in on five and a half weeks notice after Jarred Miller tested positive for three banned substances before going on to record one of the most historic upsets in boxing history. Ruiz Jr was dropped by Joshua in the third round before going on to return the favour several times over and stop the heavily fancied Briton in the seventh round at Madison Square Garden.
The Principality Stadium in Cardiff was originally touted as a possible venue for the rematch but it now looks as though both men are heading to the Middle East.
