The heavyweight unification bout between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker went the distance, before the English fighter emerged victorious on points.
No Joshua fight before this one had gone past the 11th round before, but Parker proved to be a formidable opponent and the fight proved to be far closer than some had anticipated.
Having gone the distance, it was left to the judges, and the ruled that Joshua had added the WBO heavyweight title to his WBA, IBO and IBF belts by score of 118-110 with two judges, and 119-109 with the third
However, the referee proved to be the villain of the piece. Giuseppe Quartarone was officiating in just his fourth title match, and his overzealous separation of the fighters and general refusal to allow a steady flow to proceedings infuriating those watching on social media:
That ref got in between the fighters quicker than most people would with their kids

#JoshuaParker to be settled in Round 13 by whoever lays out the referee first.

Referee successfully has prevented both men from actually fighting. #JoshuaParker
